On May 10 2009, 25 MINI’s gathered at Chandlers Brighton MINI for the start of a 70 mile run, which took them through Sussex and across the South Downs. The convoy of colourful MINI’s turned heads in towns and villages such as Henfield, Cowfold, Billingshurst, Loxwood, Petworth and Midhurst, before finishing at Goodwood Motor Circuit, near Chichester.
The run was organised by Ian Brooks and was in aid of fundraising for The Anthony Nolan Trust. Every year thousands of children and adults with fatal bone marrow diseases, like leukaemia and aplastic anaemia, reach a stage when their only hope of survival is a blood stem cell transplant from a donor who shares the same ‘tissue type’.
Although family members, mainly siblings, may offer the best match, unfortunately 70% of patients do not have a suitable sibling match and are therefore reliant on an unrelated donor to offer them the chance of life - The Anthony Nolan Trust is the UK’s largest and most successful register. After recently joining the bone marrow register, Ian is raising funds for the charity and taking part in a sponsored 10,000 feet tandem skydive.
Everybody would like to say a huge thank you to Gemma and her colleagues for providing a meeting point, with welcome refreshments and facilities.
